Since the first scholarship award of 1994, 26 recipents have benefitted from the OHS Alumni Association Scholarship.Established in 1993, this scholarship was awarded to 1 graduating OHS Senior of the Classes of 1994 and 1995. Beginning with the Class of 1996, the Alumni Association was able to award two $500.00 scholarships to graduating OHS Seniors and continues to award two annual scholarships to this day.

THE STORY OF THE MANIAC
Not actually discovered by the Orofino High School student body, our beloved Maniac Mascot continues to be a great source of pride and uniqueness sometimes causing unsolicited "controversy" by uninformed outsiders who have no real idea regarding the origins of the Maniac. The 1927 OHS basketball team is credited with being dubbed the "Maniacs" while on an away game. Orofino, not having the resources to provide the players with basketball uniforms at the time, was the subject of the opposition's teasing. Despite the ridicule, our players got out on the court and played a hard game--so much that the other team decided the Orofino players played and looked like "a bunch of maniacs".
The name stuck with the Orofino boys calling each other "Maniacs" from then on.
Our present-day mascot "logo" came along in 1972, with great credit and thanks to the late Jim Johnston (1941-2001, Former OHS Teacher, Football Coach & Athletic Director). Mr. Johnston contacted the art teacher who drew the original Maniac, who had moved on to work as an artist for the F.B.I. in Washington D.C. From Jim Johnston's efforts, the most well known Maniac logo was commissioned.
From humble beginnings as a pre-Depression era joke, our Maniac continues to be recognized as one of the most unique High School mascots not only in Idaho, but throughout the country.
